Bio
Rachael "Ray" Ball holds a PhD in History from Ohio State and is an Associate Professor of European and World History at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Ray is the author of two history books, including Treating the Public: Charitable Theater and Civic Health in the Early Modern Atlantic World, published by Louisiana State University Press in 2017. She has published articles and reviews in Bulletin for Spanish and Portuguese Historical Studies, Renaissance Quarterly, Royal Studies Journal, Sixteenth Century Journal, and others.
Ray also writes poetry and fiction. She is a Best of the Net and a Pushcart nominee. She published a chapbook of history-themed poems with Louisiana Literature Press in 2019 and a chapbook of poems centered on ecology and her relationship with her scientist father with Variant Lit in 2020. Her poems have recently appeared or are forthcoming in Cirque, descant, Glass, Okay Donkey, Rivet, Tulane Review, UCity Review, and Waccamaw. Her fiction has recently been published by Cascadia Rising Review and Ellipsis Zine.
